Pictures From The Neighborhood

The view of Tegucigalpa at sunset from our roof.

A typical house in our neighborhood.

We walk down this street nearly every day.

This is the Hodge family with their sort of extended family who has also taken us under their wing. They have become a sort of second family to us since we have been here as well.

Adorable little Abby, who the Hodges hope to have officially adopted as soon as possible.

The Ciber is one of the Hodge's many projects. This houses the internet cafe, the pizzaria, a bodega, and soon will have an exercise space for kids and women. This building has provided the opportunity for many locals to have steady jobs.

Maureen with several of the kids in the neighborhood who came to surprise her with signs and confetti the day they left for the states. Those kids adore her.

Some of the kids in Chris and Maureen's truck in front of the house after throwing the football around.

This is one of my favorites. This little guy is certainly one of the poorest kids in the neighborhood, and one of the dirtiest. He is 8 years old and is in charge of watching his two younger siblings during the day while his mom works. We try and give him and his siblings something to eat when we see him; they rarely have more than a few tortillas and some beans for a day's meal.

This fantastic young lady is one of the older kids in the neighborhood. We rely on her as a source of information, because she is old enough to understand that she has to talk slowly for us to pick up everything that she says. She is out in front of the house flying one of the homemade kites a lot of the kids enjoy playing with during this colder, windy season. We buy our tortillas from her mom.

Lisa gets at least one hug from this one almost every day. These kids have so much love to give.
